Vivica A. Fox Visits ENCAP

Vivica A. Fox is known for her roles in such films as Independence Day, "Set It Off, "Soul Food" and "Kill Bill." She is also a producer.

However, her role as guest speaker for ENCAP was all about motivation. The Eastern Nebraska Community Action Partnership brought Fox to town to talk about success.

She encouraged young people to work hard and to follow their dreams. "I didn't want to come here as a movie star. I wanted to come here as a positive role model, to let young girls, young men and young girls know that I care about them," she said. "And I want them to care about each other."

At one point, she broke into tears, talking about last week's beating death of 16 year-old Derrion Albert. The incident unfolded on a Chicago Street; Albert was caught between two rival student gangs as he was walking home from school.

A student came out of the bleachers with a tissue for Fox. That student got a hug in return.

"It's time for us to care for our youth," "to let them know that, 'hey, you guys have got to watch how you're living. And want to become somebody."

Fox added, "We cannot resort to this awful violence that I saw on that video last week. It disturbed me."
